Infrared saunas are not like traditional saunas, in that their occupants are heated through the use of far infrared radiant heat emitters rather than steam as traditional Finnish Saunas use. Traditional saunas use steam to heat the air, and the heated air heats the user of the sauna. With the infrared therapy sauna, however, infrared radiation is used as a means of directly heating the user. Infrared Radiation or IR is electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength that is longer than the wavelength for visible light; however it is shorter than the wavelength for radio waves. The radiation is capable of penetrating the body, and uses a process known as conversion as a means of heating the body itself rather than heating the air around the user.
Infrared cabins are essentially wooden boxes, or small stand up wooden rooms that contain a number of infrared heaters. This type of sauna could be an open air sauna in some warm environments and still be capable of heating the user of the sauna in a similar manner because the heaters do not require for the air to be hot, but instead they only require that the air be hot enough that the body does not cool down during the sweating process.
These units tend to be contained within a room that allows the air to heat up creating a similar feel to what a traditional sauna would be like. This sauna box, in other words, creates the same atmosphere that a traditional sauna would create, but the actual infrared therapy is being caused by the heaters rather than the hot air and steam.
Infrared saunas are said to promote immune boosting capabilities, as the safe and beneficial infrared’s radiant heat can penetrate deeper into the body, at about 1.5 inches or 40 millimeters deep. Because these vibrations are similar to water’s wavelength vibrations, they can penetrate the skin to knock toxins loose from the fat cells so that they may be released during the sweating process that the sauna promotes. This process is capable of stimulating and healing the tissue, making it an effective immunity boosting therapy, creating an environment for healthy healing.
The infrared sauna is said to be the only way to remove man made toxins from the human body, and because there is speculation that all diseases that cannot be attributed to virus or bacteria are caused by bio accumulated toxins, this is an even more powerful treatment than many people realize. If this form of infrared radiation therapy is as effective as it is appearing to be, it may be the treatment that has been sought for years to combat a variety of illnesses.
In this type of sauna, the infrared heater is capable of producing radiant energy which is essentially the same type of heat that is radiated from the sun, but without the ultra violet rays that are harmful when you are in the sun too long. These heaters typically draw on technology that was originally developed by Dr. Tadashi Ishikawa in 1965. He was a member of the Fuji Medical’s Research and Development Department.
These saunas are different from their traditional Finnish cousins in that they heat the user directly rather than relying upon heating the air and creating steam to create the necessary heat. While the traditional sauna has an ambient temperature of between 169 and 190 degrees Fahrenheit, the average temperature for an infrared technology sauna is only about 120 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, even though the amount of sweat produced is comparable. The lower temperatures in the infrared version allow users to get much greater results by staying in the sauna for a lot longer without overheating.
